MYB Outreach

- Since 1995, Manhattan Youth Ballet (MYB), formerly Studio Maestro, has offered world-class ballet training in a nurturing environment focused on precision, artistry and discipline, with an emphasis on European classical ballet.  MYB is the culmination of our efforts for the past sixteen years to create a viable and curriculum-based, non-profit ballet academy in Manhattan to serve the needs of New York's diverse dance community.  Principal members of our faculty have received their training in schools such as the School of American Ballet, Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet and the Kirov Ballet. Our faculty strives to bring out the individual potential of each student, with an emphasis on artistry as well as technique to create truly versatile dancers and instill an understanding of community involvement in our young artists.

MYB has produced numerous educational events for students in schools all over the city, and has forged a partnership with the Police Athletic League to offer free performances and lecture demonstrations to officers' children.   The benefit to this work is two-fold: the students learn that their art can make a difference in other children’s lives and MYB is able to give something back to its community. It is our hope that the children in the audience gain awareness and become inspired by exposure to the art of dance as a form of self-expression.

We truly believe that through the training received at MYB along with the performance opportunities and outreach programming, our students grow as artists and individuals who will make a difference in the world.  We strive to continue promoting the development of young dancers as well as creating opportunities for young people to develop a love of the arts, which has been proven to help in their academic schooling.  We are currently working on fundraising to be able to offer up to 10 outreach programs per school year and are confident that we can achieve our goal.

As a 501(c)(3) non-profit, Manhattan Youth Ballet school relies on donations to survive.  Tuition payments alone do not cover our daily operating costs, and MYB has remained committed to offering need-based tuition assistance to young dancers (in excess of $55,000 for the Fall 2011 Semester alone). We at MYB never want to turn a student away who is passionate about his or her training and the arts in a time of economic hardship for families all over the city. In addition, the costs to hold performances and other dance events for our students have increased the organization’s deficit tremendously over the last few years. When you give to MYB, your gift, which is tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law, will have a meaningful, enduring impact on the vibrant New York arts community. We hope that you will consider supporting our school and thank you for your consideration.
